Best Practice Day 2002

A major goal of Clinical Education and Research Day* was to stimulate research into, and application of, best practices in the clinical, operational, policy and planning spheres of rehabilitation services. As Professor Verrier noted in her plenary address, there was lots of power present in the room to make change, and this event was an encouraging step in the right direction. Several presenters observed that most people are life-long learners eager to improve practice, but frustrated by barriers to implementation. This can be especially true when patient services extend over time and multiple levels of care.

In the conference evaluation, 83% of respondents and up indicated that sessions they attended added to their knowledge and could be applied to their work. More than 60% indicated that they would likely contact one of the researchers or presenters.

With its 42 member organizations, the GTA Rehab Network is striving to be a potent catalyst for consensus-building, collaboration, coordination and communication in rehabilitation services, to the benefit of patients and providers. Thank you, and we hope to see you at next year's conference, as we continue to work together in building a model system of rehabilitation.
