| Best Practice Day 2003
Welcome to the post-conference web page of Best Practices Day 2003, which was held on February 20, 2003 at the International Plaza Hotel in Toronto, Ontario.
The theme of Best Practices Day 2003 was Turning Information into Expertise~A Look to the Future. This theme was highlighted in the many presentations on the day's program.
The day began with a keynote address from Dr. Alejandro Jadad, the Canada Chair in eHealth Innovation, who reviewed five lessons in technology and their application to rehabilitation.
Dr. Jadad's presentation was followed by a panel hosted by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and facilitated by Mr. Darryl Sturtevant, Director of Mental Health and Policy Branch, that featured each of the Ontario Rehabilitation Reform Pilot Projects. Panelists included Dr. Dan Deforge, Mr. Scott Munro, Ms. Sue Baptiste, and Dr. Mark Bayley.
In the afternoon, a second panel entitled Dawn of a New Era in Rehabilitation focused on how the Rehabilitation Balanced Scorecard project, the National Rehabilitation Reporting System and the Rehabilitation Reform Pilot Projects represented the beginning of a new era in rehabilitation. We were delighted to have Dr. Cheryl Cott, Dr. Susan Jaglal, and Mr. Ian Joiner and Mr. Sandy Doberstein as the Dawn of a New Era panelists.
In addition, the 270 delegates had the opportunity to see and hear podium and poster presentations in the areas of methods and models in rehabilitation; developing outcomes and guidelines, spinal cord injury; stroke; acquired brain injury; burn; and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. As Professor Verrier said in her closing remarks, "These are the minds, hearts and hands, behind the work."
With its 43 member organizations, the GTA Rehab Network is striving to be a potent catalyst for consensus-building, collaboration, coordination and communication in rehabilitation services, to the benefit of patients and providers.
Many of the presentations made at Best Practices Day 2003 are available below for personal use only. No other use of the presentations is authorized without the explicit consent of the authors.
