Setting a Flame to the Adventure Within

DAVID SHANNON B.A., LL.B, LL.M., PhD (in progress)

In 1981, David Shannon had a C5 spinal cord injury. He completed his rehabilitation at Lyndhurst hospital, and from there let the adventure begin. This has included being the first person with quadriplegia to reach the North Pole, adaptive scuba diving, bungee jumping, a world record skydive, and a planned expedition to the South Pole in 2010. Despite all these accomplishments, David always states that "education has made the difference in my life. It has given me self-esteem, a career, and the road to an enriching support system". David will discuss how his rehab experience has built the foundation to being welcomed and included in the community, as well as share the ongoing role it plays in his life and others with SCI. For David it is through engaged client focused rehabilitation that great and unrealized potential can flourish.
